CFO
This Chicago position
is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling the
organization’s overall financial plans and policies,
accounting practices, and external financial relationships.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Develop and
maintain strategic objectives for the finance department.
-Directs and prepares financial analyses of operations for
guidance of management. -Plans and directs new operational
procedures to obtain optimum efficiency and reduced costs
including ABM analyses and control reviews. -Directs such
functions as treasury, budgeting, tax, accounting, investment
activities and financial operations. -Directs preparation of
budgets, financial forecasts and audits. -Directs the
preparation of reports, which outline company’s financial
position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past,
present and future operations.
COMPENSATION The
successful candidate will enjoy a comprehensive compensation
package that includes a $175,000 salary, annual individual
performance driven bonus, participation in the long term
compensation plan, retirement plan, 401K plan, group health
benefits including dental and vision, short term and long term
disability benefits, life insurance, and holiday and leave
benefits.
No relocation is offered for this position.
SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal skills to effectively communicate
with other senior level executives.
EXPERIENCE At
least 10 years of CFO experience. At least 3 years in the health
insurance industry.
EDUCATION MBA or CPA

BASIC PURPOSE OF
THE POSITION
Manage the
Underwriting Department
DUTIES and
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the
Underwriting staff that is responsible for processing all the
individual health insurance applications.
Make sure the
department operates within underwriting guidelines, meets
productivity and quality requirements, and functions within the
budgetary limits.
Developing new ways to
process applications better and more efficiently.
Contributor to
modifying the company’s evolving underwriting philosophy.
CHARACTERISTICS
OF PERFORMANCE
Must have strong
analytical skills with a high degree of comfort dealing with
insurance production environment problems such as work-flows,
productivity, and quality controls. Thinks of problems and
opportunities in terms of their financial and productivity impacts
both short-term and long-term.
Candidates must have
the ability to balance the needs of the agents,
productivity/quality requirements, and the fiscal needs of the
company. They must also understand the key issues in underwriting
and risk assessment for health insurance.
Candidates need to be
intelligent, analytical, tough-minded, but fair. Should be a
creative problem solver with an instinct for preempting problems
and developing means to best utilize staff under less than perfect
conditions. They need to be the type of person that are constantly
looking for new ways to improve productivity, quality, and
service.
EDUCATION
Undergraduate degree
is required. MBA or an ASA/FSA designation is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have
at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the
Health Insurance Industry and 5 years in the Actuarial field. This
experience should be inclusive of risk assessment of health
insurance products and the management of employees.

The qualified
candidate controls the production of monthly profitability
reporting for Corporate senior management and Corporate Center
(Blue Book, Plan Risk Assessment and others). Continually
communicates with Business Unit CFOs to track BU performance
compared to Plan and prior year, identifies reasons for variances
and the contingencies being implemented to close Plan shortfalls.
Responsible for summarizing the key plan shortfalls and
implemented contingencies for the CFO while ensuring consistency
with other departments (Strategic Initiatives Group, Cost
Accounting, Investments and others). Produces presentations on
behalf of the CFO for senior staff and Quarterly Operations
Meetings. Ensures data integrity is maintained in the SAP
reporting system and sponsor new systems developments ensuring a
smooth rollout process to the Business Units. This qualified
candidate will have 12 direct reports.
Job
Qualifications Bachelors Degree. 8 or more years
of related experience. Professional Accounting certification,
as appropriate to local country.
Compensation
$100,000
to $180,000 Salary
