SYSTEMS SECURITY ENGINEER IN CHICAGO


POSITION PURPOSE:


The Systems Security Engineer is responsible for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the companies information server system resources in compliance with all applicable laws, security best practices and company policies. This individual will assist team leaders and systems administrators with securing all information system resources from accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure.


Under the direction of the Windows Server Systems Team and working in conjunction with the Unix Server Systems Team Leader, the Systems Security Engineer will recommend, implement and support security solutions such as host based firewalls, intrusion detection systems and biometrics. Confers with management, auditors, security departments and process managers to identify and plan security for data in networked installations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

·1 Work with resource owners and determine appropriate security policies for securable network resources

·2 Work with IT staff to evaluate, select, install and configure security software and mechanisms

·3 Help IT staff identify and correct poorly implemented security controls

·4 Review intrusion and system logs to determine cause of system security-related events

·5 Monitor web sites, mailing lists and other security related media for security advisories and distribute information to appropriate information owners. (15%)

·6 Assist management and audit teams with investigating suspected security misuse

·7 Work with IT staff to create, maintain and implement disaster recovery plans.

·8 Maintain vendor contacts and relationships to ensure timely and effective resolution of problems/failures.

·9 Assist with creating, maintaining and updating security policy documentation as pertains to the enterprise network.

·10Provide security training to audiences from management to field staff as appropriate

·11Other assigned duties.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline


·1 Microsoft Windows server and/or Unix support certification

Experience:

· At least 7 years experience in enterprise-networking environment.

· At least 4-5 years experience in implementation, troubleshooting and monitoring of client/server enterprise environment

· Client/Server: Windows NT/2000/2003 Server, Linux/Unix (Knoppix), Internet, Intranet, Extranet

· Desktop: Windows NT/2000/XP, NAI/McAfee Anti-Virus, Internet Explorer, Outlook, C++, Visual Basic, HTML

· Protocols/Transport: DHCP, WINS, DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, FTP, NetBEUI, Frame Relay

· Network: NIC hardware, hubs, switches and router experience

· Hardware: HP Proliant server hardware and HP RISC server hardware

· Management software: Veritas Netbackup , ISS RealSecure, HP Openview, NAI/McAfee EPO

· Knowledge of various network vulnerability tools such as NetStumbler, FPort, Ethereal and Nessus


Unique Competencies:

· Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE)

· CISSP, GSEC or related security certification

· Project Management experience

· Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of employees.

· Team player with customer oriented focus.

· Automotive leasing/retail or Financial business exposure.


SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary : $75000

Time off:      

  1. Vacation: 15 days beginning January 1, following year of hire.

  2. Holidays: approximately 14 paid each year.

  2. Defined Pension Plan, vested after 5 years of service (100% Company Contribution).
